New Mum Recovery in Liverpool
Sports Therapy & Active Recovery for Postnatal Women
New Mum Recovery is a sports therapy service supporting postnatal recovery after pregnancy and birth, designed for women experiencing common aches, pains and deconditioning in early motherhood.
As a sports therapist and a new mum, I understand both the physical demands of postnatal recovery and the practical realities of returning to movement, exercise and daily life with a baby. This service provides accessible, evidence-based support for women who want to feel stronger, more comfortable and confident in their bodies again.
This is not specialist postnatal physiotherapy for complex conditions. It is active recovery and ongoing musculoskeletal support for new mums who have been cleared for exercise or do not require medical intervention.
Each New Mum Recovery session is 90 minutes to provide sufficient time for sports massage, movement checks and practical advice, without rushing if feeding or settling your baby is needed.
What Is Sports Therapy for New Mums?
Early motherhood places significant physical demands on the body. Feeding, carrying, disrupted sleep and reduced movement often lead to:
Neck and shoulder pain from breastfeeding and bottle feeding
Upper and lower back pain after pregnancy
General postnatal stiffness, weakness and fatigue
Loss of confidence with movement and exercise
New Mum Recovery sessions combine sports massage, movement screening, and postnatal strength guidance to address these issues and support long-term recovery.
Why It Works
✔ Targets common postnatal pain patterns
Sports massage focuses on areas commonly overloaded after birth, including the neck, shoulders and back from feeding, carrying and prolonged static positions.
✔ Supports active recovery, not just symptom relief
Combining hands-on treatment with movement and strength checks helps restore function, reduce recurrence of pain, and improve confidence with movement.
✔ Bridges the gap after postnatal clearance
Many women are cleared for exercise but lack guidance on how to rebuild strength safely. This service supports a gradual return to activity, including return to running after birth and postnatal strength training.
Common Questions
Q: Do I need to see a postnatal physiotherapist before booking?
A: Not necessarily. This service is suitable if you do not have symptoms requiring specialist postnatal physiotherapy, such as prolapse, significant pelvic pain or severe diastasis recti. If you are unsure, you are welcome to get in touch before booking.
Q: How soon after birth can I book a New Mum Recovery session?
A: Sessions are typically appropriate once you feel ready and have been medically cleared for general activity. Timing varies between individuals and types of birth.
Q: Can this help me return to running or exercise after pregnancy?
A: Yes. Sessions include practical guidance on returning to exercise after birth, improving strength, and managing load alongside fatigue and recovery. This is not a training plan, but structured support to help you move safely and confidently.
